We are all hearing the warnings and guidelines to ward against the Flu, especially our kids off to school and college this fall. But catching the swine flu is not the only risk college students will face this year - students also need to protect themselves against Identity Theft.

College students may believe that they don’t have any personal information worth stealing. But identity theft among students - because those vulnerable identities are less likely to be guarded closely.

Caution is the key. It’s easy to grow casual and comfortable - Identity Thieves know this, and take advantage of it.

Here are a few things you can do to keep you and your identity safe.…

Never leave your dorm room open or unlocked. This is the first line of defense against a thief looking for your wallet or purse, or your electronics.

Do not leave your computer unattended. Physically secure your laptop at all times. If you have a car, lock your computer in the truck, don’t leave it lying on the seat. Don’t give someone access to your identity - and all the other important things on your computer!

Be careful when sharing computers. As a student you may use public computers at the library, in computer classrooms, at an internet café, or you might borrow your roommate’s laptop sometimes. Be cautious! They may be infected with spyware.

Be smart with your online activity. Social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace are a fun way to get to know people - and identity thieves want to know ALL about you. Be careful what information you post online! Be wary of network sharing, which can introduce identity-stealing malware to your machine.

Protect your computer’s contents. Use a password, even if it’s inconvenient to login every time. Make sure that it’s not your birthday or Social Security Number. Also, have a firewall! You may not think that you have valuable personal information on your computer, but you would be surprised! Be smart, keep yourself safe. Stay alert with your credit. If you have credit cards, make sure that you check your statement every month. Spend a few minutes to make sure all the charges are YOUR charges, and not someone else buying things in your name. You won’t regret the extra few minutes that could save your personal identity.

Guard your physical identity too! Don’t leave your credit cards lying around.  Also, make sure to shred anything with your personal information on it. That includes credit card applications you get in the mail - makes sure someone else doesn’t fill it out and pretend to be you!

I’m going to tell you how you can improve your chance of making money on the Internet. So if that is what you are looking to do, then read on.

Making money starts by picking a Niche Market to focus on. This is true with any business. You wouldn’t try selling a radio to a deaf person.

Here are four steps to getting started:

1. Indentify your target market: stay at home moms or dads, teenagers, baby boomers, etc. You’re looking for people that would be interested in your topic.
2. Narrow down your market so you can attract buyers; example: Moms or Dads. etc.
3. Learn what they read, and their interest, so you can tailor you articles and Ads.

You can start the process of selecting a Niche Market by asking yourself some questions:

1. What do you know a lot about?
2. What are you passionate about?
3. What can you tell others about how to do something or fix a problem?

When you start a Home Business get a mentor (someone more experienced than you) or get yourself educated.

Have the PASSION to be successful, so you don’t give up before you reach your goal.

The longer you are in Internet or Network Marketing the more you’ll be hearing about Social Medias. The Social Traffic Explosion is unstoppable, so the more you can learn the more successful you can be in attracting people to you, and your opportunity.

Brian Campbell believes they’re 8 basic principles you must follow to become more effective with all of your social media efforts.

The principles listed below should be studied, memorized and used as guidelines for all the social networking you do.  These are the basics.  More advanced topics will be covered in future blog posts. This will help you to attract a highly targeted, highly responsive social following.

Principle #1: Know your Niche.  Know exactly what type of person it is that you want to attract to you.  You should be able to define your niche(s) in a simple sentence.

Principle #2: Know your Niche keywords. Keep a list of the top 20-50 keywords for your niche.  Think about what people in your niche would search for in Google.  Know the names of the best selling books & authors.  Know the names of the top selling information products, coaching programs, & seminars in your niche.  Keep this list. Memorize it. Use these keywords as much as possible (without overdoing it) in the titles, subject lines, headlines, tweets, group names, and your social media account profiles.

Principle #3: Have a good profile picture. Find the best picture of yourself that shows you as a happy person smiling.  This is the first impression people have of you. Most people won’t even add you as a friend if you don’t have a profile picture.  It’s essential to have this picture, or you’re pretty much wasting your time with social media.

Principle #4: Use multiple social media accounts. Have accounts with the top social sites.  This gives you increased effectiveness for each action you take with social media.  The various social sites become more powerful when you use them together.

Principle #5: Know the social players in your niche. You should research who the main people in your niche are on all of the social sites you’re on.  Ask around; look at who is posting the most quality to your niche.  See who is commenting on all the niche related stuff.  For each social site you are on, keep a separate list of the “players” on that site.  This may sound like extra work, but when you implement the theories I’m going to teach you later - it will be the biggest time saver you ever integrate.

Principle #6: Make tons of friends. You want to get to 500 friends on any social site as fast as possible.   Once you hit this milestone, you can be more selective.  This gives you enough power to get your message out there.  Don’t overlook this essential step.  I personally never turned down a friend request (until I reached 5,000 on facebook and they forced me to). You want your presence to expand.  It expands by having friends.  The more the better. Ideally you want people who are active within your niche.  Once you get the initial 500, you’ll attract more people in your niche by following the other principles included in this list. Once you get 500, only send friend requests to targeted people within your niche.

Principle #7: Take it easy. Know your limitations for the social sites. A basic rule of thumb you can go by is that you don’t send more than 30 friend requests on any one social site in a single day.  The beauty of having dozens of social sites to choose from is that you can spread your friend requests across multiple networks and won’t get banned for being too aggressive.

Principle #8: Don’t message all your friends at once. There are exceptions to this that I’ll cover later. But for now, play it safe and don’t message all your friends on any social network until you know when & how to do it properly.

This list gives you the most basic social networking success principles.  By constantly applying these concepts to all of your networking, you’ll quickly become one of the top people in your niche on the social sites you’re on.

You maybe asking why I’m writing about Internet Attraction Marketing and Affiliate Programs in the same post. Will it is very simple, if anyone in an Affiliate Program is looking to recruit others into their business, and/or build a lead list, while selling their affiliates products, not using Internet Attraction Marketing to bring traffic to their website are missing the latest marketing tool.

Michael Cheney, a successful Internet Marketer, attended a meeting in Las Vegas with other top money makers in Affiliate Marketing to discuss what they should be focusing now to continue build a successful internet business. They all agreed the Internet Attraction Marketing need to be their focus. Social Media is the best way to reach millions of people in Home Businesses, or looking to start.

Let the truth be told, the economy is in shambles and money is tight driving people to look for supplemental income streams.

This is what makes them highly attractive recruits for an affiliate marketing program. These people are on the internet looking for an opportunity to solve their problem. They are bringing a great deal of commitment to the table. That means you can not sign them up to work in your affiliate marketing program haphazardly. Instead, a logical deliberate approach would be better. This is where internet attraction marketing can prove helpful. It’s most important if your affiliate program is promoting training or information material, as compared to selling product of well known brands.

In essence, attraction marketing follows a slow burn approach.

That is, the purpose of attraction marketing is to draw people in over time. This is done by providing information on the affiliate program without implying they must sign up immediately. In other words, by providing a detailed overview on the subject people may be drawn in to learn more. From this, their interest may be piqued and they may wish to contact you for further information. Eventually, they may become affiliates under in your network marketing program. Since such an approach is the opposite of hyperbolic promotions that seek to close deals quickly many may look quizzically at attraction marketing. Again, patience is foreign to many but if you exercise the patience inherent with internet attraction marketing success may be forthcoming…

While hyperbole often works well (”Make millions and never work again!”) honesty is even better.

If you provide a clear and logical sale pitch on the benefits of network marketing you will attract people who are serious. That is, if you promote the notion that affiliate marketing can provide either a solid part-time or full time income as long as a realistic approach is employed, you will draw in serious clients. So, when embarking on an internet attraction marketing strategy keep hyperbole to a minimum. It will create more credibility in the eyes of those looking for an affiliate marketing program.

Conversely, if you are looking to align with an affiliate marketing service, information attraction marketing will benefit you are well.

Those interested parties should look for reviews, promotional sites and other informational sources prior to making any affiliation decisions. This way, you know that the program you select is most definitely the best for your own particular needs. Additionally, if you take your time and do a little “due diligence” you can make sure you align with a legitimate and reliable company.

So, those interested in becoming involved in network marketing will look through the internet to find a program.

Conversely, those looking to sign up a second tier sales team should develop a presence on the internet that promotes your business? Remember, this presence will promote information on the affiliate program. It will detail what the affiliate program is about and how someone can make money with it. Such information will draw the interested parties in by providing them with a clear outline of what work they will do and what they will receive in return for their efforts.

But, how does one go about developing an informational presence on the internet? Well, it is easier than most would assume.

One way is to join Renegade University, who will walk you through the process, step by step. The other way is to do it on your own. I don’t recommend you do it on your own, because it will take you longer and harder to make money.

Today, there are a multitude of low cost, effective means of promoting yourself on the internet.

Probably the easiest way would be to set up a free social networking profile on a well populated site such as MySpace, Facebook, and others called Social Media, or Web 2.0. Provided you are not spamming the site or sending out unsolicited emails, most social networking sites allow people to promote business ventures. Creating a solid profile with illustrations, informative blog entries, and insightful bulletins can raise the interest level of those might find the world of affiliate marketing to good to pass up.

Then, there are “hub pages” that are essentially free web pages provided within a unified directory.

Of course, these hub pages can be optimized for the search engines and act as a successful tool for attracting new members to an affiliate program. A highly detailed hub page that promises a solid income opportunity will raise the eyebrows of those looking to earn extra income.

Regardless of the medium employed, the informational marketing approach should be informative and educational in scope.

This will make people feel comfortable about joining and it will attract serious minded people. As such, this is a benefit for those involved in the business and those looking to get involved as well.

The thing to remember is you should get all the help you can from an expert to save you time, and avoid making costly mistakes.
